MomoCon!- Wasshoi Wednesday #10

Since it's Anime Week over on our social media, we could think of no better organization to write about this Wednesday than our friends at MomoCon! MomoCon needs little introduction, especially for Atlanta residents; this anime and gaming convention has been happening annually since 2005, from humble origins on Georgia Tech's campus to hosting over 35,000 people at the Georgia World Congress Center!

Several years ago MomoCon teamed up with us to add the Anime Village area to JapanFest, giving our festival a pop culture flair! We're grateful for all of their help each year! They also host and help with other events throughout the year, including Cosplayers on Ice and photoshoot meetups.

This year, like many other conventions and events, MomoCon had to cancel in the wake of COVID. However, they were able to quickly pull together a hugely successful online event (we're not sure exactly how they did it, but we at JapanFest were very impressed!). They were still able to have a 4-day schedule with guest speakers, a virtual vendor hall, panels, and workshops. They even made a MomoCon Island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

We're excited and grateful to have the MomoCon team helping us out again this year for Virtual JapanFest. They're actually a vendor in our Virtual Marketplace, so please check them out! We're both looking forward to next year when we can see each other face to face at in-person events!

Speaking of events, this Friday the MomoCon Build Guild will be hosting a Gunpla Workshop! They'll walk you through, step by step, how to build two different starter Gunpla kits by Bandai: Build Strike Gundam Full Package HG and Gunner Zaku Warrior HG kits. Purchase these kits -including basic tools- here while supplies last! Workshops like these and more are available at MomoCon every year to allow you to try out new hobbies and take home your creations.

The next MomoCon has dates set for May 27–30, 2021. MomoCon brings together fans of Japanese Anime, American Animation, Comics, Video Games, and Tabletop Games to celebrate their passion by costuming / cosplay, browsing the huge exhibitors' hall, meeting celebrity voice talent, designers, and writers behind their favorite shows, games, and comics and much much more over this 4-day event.
