The Machida Family
Shigenobu (Sam) Machida immigrated from Yokohama, Japan, to the US in 1966 to attend Berry College in Rome.
After graduating from Berry he attended Emory University and Georgia State College. He earned a MS in mathematics in 1972 from Georgia State. He worked for Trust Company of Georgia, Eastern Airlines, and IBM. While he worked for Eastern in Miami he was an officer of Japan American Society of South Florida.
He became a naturalized citizen on July 4, 1976. Upon moving to Duluth in 1983 he joined Japan American Society of Georgia. He enjoyed taking his family to JapanFest at Stone Mountain Park and Infinite Energy Center in Duluth. His children and grandchildren have continued to attend JapanFest in honor of his memory.
Pictured below are the Machida Housemark and Sam's children, Dennis and Helen, attending a festival in Miami in 1982.
We at JapanFest Atlanta would once again like to thank our generous Ume and Tanpopo Level sponsors for their generous contributions!
